Chickpeas are delicious and wonderfully nutritious! If you are searching for a recipe that incorporates all of the good ness of chickpea nutrition, then look no further! Our own chef is sharing her favorite homemade hummus recipe, passed down through her Italian/Middle Eastern heritage. Talk about some great, authentic hummus! Your mouth will do the happy dance when you get a bite of this amazing food!

Homemade Hummus Recipe

What you need:

1 15oz. can of chick peas or garbonzo beans (drain the liquid and save)
¼ cup Tahini
1 clove of garlic
½ tsp. salt
¼ cup lemon juice from a small lemon

Blend for 2 – 3 minutes or until it is a smooth paste constancy.

Serve it up in a pretty dish, along with fresh veggies and pita chips for dipping.

Your family and friends will request this as often as you are willing to make it. It is absolutely delicious!

 

Chickpea Nutriton

The high fiber and choline content of chickpeas contributes to great health. It promotes regularity, helps with insulin resistance, lowers, LDL, and reduces systemic inflammation.

The vitamins and minerals contribute to heart health, anti cancer properties, and healthy bones and muscles.

Chickpeas are a good source of protein, and when combined with other sources of protein, such as eggs, and nuts, fulfills your daily requirements. And so delicious!

Eating chickpeas provides you with a vegetarian-friendly source of protein, with each cup of cooked garbanzo beans containing 15 grams. Your body breaks down this protein into amino acids, and then uses them to maintain the health of your body’s tissues. Chickpeas are a source of incomplete protein, which means they do not contain every amino acid you need for good health. Make sure you combine them with other sources of protein, such as nuts, whole grains, dairy, eggs or meat to prevent an amino acid deficiency. A cup of cooked chickpeas provides 12.5 grams of fiber.
